Verbier Sport Ski Mountain

Verbier is a beautiful mountain resort with the ski area being one of the largest in Switzerland, extending over the 4 valleys that carry nearly 400 km of slopes between 1500m and 3300m altitude. It is also the resort to go for if you do not ski, as the scenery is exceptional, the activities varied and you will not get bored.

Besson Estate offers a whole range of leisure activities ready to be discovered in the Verbier region for you to live and adventure that will leave you changed forever.

Here are a few of our suggestions:

Stroll along the snowy, winding paths

Enjoy the many walks abound in the area and live wonderful moments of relaxation and inspiration. Hiking and beautiful views of the Combin Mountains, Mont Blanc and Trient provide you with plenty of beneficial effects and a sense of well-being conducive to good physical and mental health.

Here are two excursions that we recommend for enjoying the sun:

1. Les Ruinettes – La Chaux
Very nice and easy walk of about 1 hour, completely flat, accessible to the whole family, and easily manageable with children on a sled. You will get a wonderful view of the Val de Bagnes and the Combins massif and also discover the sculptures on exhibition outdoor in the 3D-park.

Take the transport from Verbier and stop at the Ruinettes.  From there, head down a few meters under the Black Sheep restaurant and go straight towards la Chaux. A magnificent terrace popular with locals and tourists alike, the restaurant “Le Dahu” is waiting for you, in a dream setting. You will be welcomed by the owner Claude-Alain Besse who will offer you the best in fine dining.

You can go on foot or take the lift directly from la Chaux (make sure you specify from the outset, when you take your ticket).

2. Le Sonalon – Les Planards
A beautiful walk in the snow, slightly uphill, lasting about 1 hour.

You can access the Sonalon by public transport in winter from Verbier every 15 mins. from 8:15 to 17:30. Then follow the snow-covered road on foot. At the next junction turn right to reach the Planards. This small hamlet consisting of a few chalets is simply magical and offers a breathtaking panorama. For food, why not stop in at one of these very good restaurants: La Marmotte and le Namasté both with very pretty terraces.

Discover snowy landscapes in small nearby villages

Enjoy your stay in Verbier by walking through the snow and discovering the wonders of the Bagnes Valley. Visit the small villages and taste the quiet, the beauty of the mountain scenery, breathe the fresh air and make some unforgettable memories. And don’t forget to take your cameras!

Visit Médières, the last village on the road up to Verbier. This village is truly astonishing, with its traditional appearance, in modern Verbier. With numerous chalets and sunburnt mazots this place remains home to the famous Hérens cows. There is also a goat farm.

Discover Sarreyer a small typical Valais village perched on the sunny hillside. It is dotted with mazots that appear slightly burnt by the sun. Traverse the myriad of little streets right up to exit near the last chalets and discover a 19th century windmill with a vertical wheel!

Bruson is Bagnes’ second ski resort. Located on the northern slope in front of Verbier, the sun it scarcer and snow blankets the ground for longer. Discover the streets of the village and its pretty mazots.

The Verbier Tourist Office organizes a tour of the Verbier-Village every Tuesday. (Reservations can be made at +41 27 775 38 88)

Explore the heights in a cable car

You don’t ski but you want to see the most beautiful panoramas. Well you can! Reach the 3330m Mont Fort by cable car. Take beautiful pictures and enjoy panoramic views of the Italian, French and Swiss Alps. It’ll take around a half-day to make the round trip. Remember to wrap up warm.

Enjoy toboggan runs

A toboggan trip is a great activity to discover at any age. You can rent a toboggan in stores at the top of the Savoleyres’ facilities. From there you take the lifts that take you to the starting point. From the top of Savoleyres’ facilities (2354m), you find the longest toboggan run in Switzerland that takes you to la Tzoumaz (1506m). Its exceptional winding route takes you on a wild ride where you’ll live moments of real happiness.

Come ride with the huskies

Discover the beautiful landscape of the Verbier region from the comfort of a husky drawn sleigh (from 2 years and above) in the company of passionate young Olivia Milan who will make you live an adventure to rival those told in the books of Jack London. For a more sporty activity in harmony with nature why not learn to drive a team of dogs and become a musher over a distance of 7 km (from 14 years old) or 20 km (16 years old) the latter option comes with a typical Valais meal. It is also possible to enjoy some ‘Cani-hiking’ (hiking in a dog sled).

Eywa’s trails offer their services by reservation only. Each activity is subject to a limited number of participants.

Travel through the air by paraglider

Fly like a bird above the Val de Bagnes and discover the region from the sky – a unique experience.  Test yourself in the company of a professional pilot by tandem paragliding to give yourself the sensation of freedom. Several paragliding schools offer their services in the region: Fly VerbierGraviteoMountain ParaguideFly TimeVerbier summit

Verbier on your plate

This is one aspect of the mountain that everyone cam agree on: gastronomy.

The delights available are all based on a long Valais heritage.

To warm and tantalise your taste buds, enjoy the beautiful snowy landscapes and experience gourmet food in the many restaurants around the resort that beautifully utilise the local produce. Renowned chefs maintain the culinary reputation of Bagnes station.

The prestigious Gault Millau guide has rated two establishments at Verbier namely the Chalet d’Adrien with his chef Mirco Marchesi the Cordée des Alpes and its chef Marco Bassi.

Discover local produce: making Val de Bagnes cheese

Bagnes cheese is a raw milk raclette cheese made according to an ancient recipe in different dairy farms of the Bagnes valley and in the mountain pastures during the summer. This is one of the most famous raclette cheeses but is also enjoyed for making fondue and it’s a real treat to eat as is.
