In 1946, after the war, the Swiss government declared that thanks to its convenient location, Verbier was an ideal ski resort and deserved to be developed. They began by building a few ski lifts and chair lifts. Nevertheless, it was only in the 1960s that the skiing boom allowed Verbier to become one of Switzerland’s best known ski resorts.

Today, Verbier is not only known as a freeride paradise, but the resort offers slopes for all types and levels of skiers.  The Valais resort is a gateway for the 4 Vallées, and offers nearly 90 lifts and over 400 km of ski slopes.

Verbier 4 Valleys allows you to ski in the largest ski area in Switzerland. You can connect to Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon from Verbier. But you can also access all the ski area of Savoleyres and Bruson.

Thanks to its elevated location, the snow conditions allow the resort to open from the month of November to late April. Mechanical snow improves difficult places and those places where snow is rare.

– The best skiers are expected at Mont-Fort, the summit of the slopes at 3330 m. From here you can enjoy a majestic view of the most beautiful and highest peaks of the Alps before tackling a perilous and very steep descent.

– The more experienced should go at altitude towards the Gentianes sectors. These areas are served by comfortable and fast modern lifts.

– For the more casual skiers, the easiest slopes are rather in the Attelas , Lac des Vaux, la Chaux and Savoleyres sectors.

– For children and complete beginners, two small pistes in the resort are ideally located due to their sunshine and the gentle gradient of the slope: Esserts and Moulins are a paradise for small skiers.

The ski routes (yellow signs) are only for very good skiers. They are marked out and protected against the dangers of the mountain but are however neither groomed nor controlled. If the dangers are too great they may be closed.

Some routes: Gentian-Tortin, Chassoure-Tortin, le Vallon d’Arbi, Mont Gelé-la Grande Journée, Mont Gelé-la Chaux, le Plan du Fou, Leytegeon.

Verbier is also known for other snow sports. Powdery fields await fans of off-piste. A snowpark and boardercross area, for the youngest visitors, are based all winter on the slopes of La Chaux if there is enough snow.

Verbier is not only the Alpine capital of off-piste skiing, but is also a major player in heliskiing. You can reachthe high peaks of the region by helicopter with high-mountain guides and ski on virgin pristine slopes for thrills away from any human presence. You can even combine this activity with ski hiking.

– Free yourself from your equipment :

From your chalet or apartment, if you want to walk or take the bus to the ski lifts without ski equipment, you can leave your shoes that can be heated and disinfected and drop your skis and poles off in all security at the Médran deposit (departure of ski lifts on Verbier).
