It’s not a coincidence that Verbier appears in the Premium Switzerland selection as one of the 4 best ski resorts in Switzerland to be sure to have snow.

Located in the heart of the 4 Valleys, the ski resort of Verbier peaks at 3330m at the top of the Mont-Fort Glacier and has a total of 410 km of pistes and 89 ski lifts. Climate change has brought higher average temperatures over both land and sea, reducing the chances of having a white Christmas in many countries such as the UK. Verbier’s height and position make it a resort that often has exceptional snow.

Although in the 2000s the snow was acceptable and the snow machines were very useful at times, in recent years we have been able to show our resort at its best. Demonstration through this little summary of winters in recent years:

– Winter 2010/2011: a fantastic winter such as we had not seen for a long time. From late November, a lot of snowfall covered Verbier with its white coat, both in the plains and in the mountains, giving residents and holidaymakers alike a beautiful white Christmas.

– Winter 2011/2012: there was still no sign of snow by 1 December and people were beginning to get impatient. But by December 15, the resort was covered in white and Verbier’s winter residents were treated to a really beautiful Christmas. After the holidays, the powder delighted fans of skiing and other winter sports until the end of February, only to return in April.

– Winter 2012/2013: in the same way as the previous year, the snow began to fall at the beginning of December, to give a fabulous snowy Christmas and absolutely exceptional skiing conditions. March gave way to a slight thaw, before covering the coat of snow returned in April and May, especially for Easter. Verbier nearly even opened its slopes for the weekend of 28 May, before abandoning the idea because of an avalanche.

– Winter 2013/2014: as there is an exception to every rule, winter 2013/2014 saw very little snow. There was no snow for Christmas, but the people of Verbier still saw small waves of snowflakes fall on December 26. But that winter was unquestionably nothing like the past and future winters.

– Winter 2014/2015: there was no snow in November or on Christmas Day, but the snow machines allowed the first holidaymakers to enjoy a holiday full of sun even though the temperature rose to 10 degrees in the resort. Lots of snow fell as of 27 December, as if it was trying to make up for lost time and end of the season saw good conditions until late February.

During the holiday season, Verbier lights up with sublime fairy lights and decorations, the residents are immersed in an amazing fairytale atmosphere, the resort is very caring towards everyone and Christmas always seems like a magical moment.
